Surgery a success
Well, surgery on Monday went great. They took him from us at 7:35 and by 7:55 I was holding him again!! We were home by 9:45 and by 10 he was chasing Cash around with his walker. So all in all things went well. On that note however, we did have to go to the Dr. today and they found he has thrush. Not much to do about that but take the antibiotics. It isn't contagious and should clear up in 6-8 days. He only has two days left at daycare and then Riley will be a stay at home dad for a few months. Unfortunately that will mean Riley will be working 2nd shift at Fastenal Sunday through Wednesday. We're hoping that by me starting grad school next month that we'll move up the waiting list at Winona State's daycare center.

Santa on the move
Well, it's been a busy couple of weeks since our last entry. Lucas is 8 months old! We can't believe it either. He's growing and changing so much! He's been eating baby food for quite a while now but this last week we added finger foods! We got him these banana puffs and baby rice cake things and he absolutely loves them. He's moved on to third foods so the next step is gerber graduates already!!
Last night we took Lucas to see the lighted Holiday train. He was intrigued by it. He couldn't stop staring at all the lights, but I think it was a little loud for him. We weren't able to stay very long either, it was pretty cold out. After the lighted train we took Lucas to meet Santa for the first time. He did pretty good. Sat on Santas lap for about 30 seconds before he started to get scared and a little fussy. The look on his face was priceless. He kept looking at Santa like "wow, what the heck are you!" It was very cute!
Tomorrow night he's going to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa Krause. Riley and I are going to have a winter bonfire for our birthdays. I'm looking forward to a full night of uninterupted sleep but I have a feeling i'll wake up several times worrying about Lucas. Even though I obviously trust his grandparents completely, this will be his first overnight away from home. I haven't been away from him for more than a few hours since he was born!
Well, we'll post again after his surgery! Wish the little guy luck! :)

Tubes
Poor Lucas. He's been sick with a cold since Thursday and he has ANOTHER ear infection. Well actually this is a continuation of the double ear infection he's had since September! So since Thursday the little guys had to sleep in his swing just so he can breathe and he's had a fever of anywhere from 99-101 degrees for the last 2 days. Thankfully today was our appointment with the ear nose and throat specialist. Normally they won't put tubes in until an infant is 9 months old, but our hospital just got a new anesthesiologist that works specifically in pediatrics so they are willing to do Lucas surgery now. The first opening was on December 15th so we took it. The ear nose and throat specialist put him on an antibiotic to clear up the current ear infection and she's keeping him on that until the day of surgery as a preventative measure. SO, cross your fingers that the little man starts feeling better soon and that once the tubes are in it'll be back to smooth sailing in the Stejskal household.
On December 15th when we take him in, we'll need to be at the hospital around 6:30 in the morning. He'll be put under general anesthetic and the procedure from the time they take him from us until he's out of recovery should be an hour or less. Then they'll keep us at the hospital for a couple hours to monitor him to make sure the anesthia wears off like it's supposed to and we'll be able to go home. They said there isn't much discomfort for the babies and what little there is can be helped with tylenol. So hopefully by Christmas he'll be back to his happy baby self!

Tooth number 2!
Well, Lucas cut his 2nd tooth last night! It takes so much out of him that he sleeps through the night the day/night he cuts a tooth. So last night he slept from 8:30 until 7:15 this morning!! Thank goodness!! Riley and I are so exhausted it was really nice to get one night of uninterupted sleep! Although it's been such a rare occassion these last couple of months that my first reaction is "oh my god, is he ok!" So we're up to two teeth in less than 2 weeks!! :)
Now we're hoping he'll start crawling soon. He's started to show a little more interest in it, but I'm still wondering if he won't go right to furniture surfing.

Growing so fast!
Hello friends and family! We decided we should start a blog because Lucas is growing so fast it's hard to keep everyone updated! So where do I start?? He will be 7 months next week! I can't believe it!! He's sitting up on his own, rolling over front to back and back to front, eating solids, holding his own bottle, and babbling. Tuesday was a big day, his first tooth came in on Tuesday and he has another one ready to come through already. The first week of September he started daycare and also got a double ear infection, which sadly we're still dealing with! We have an appointment to meet with an ENT specialist on the 18th about the possibility of him needing tubes. Riley and I are very tired! Lucas was sleeping through the night for almost 2 months before I went back to work and then with the ear infection and everything he's maybe slept through the night twice since the beginning of September.
For his first Halloween we dressed him up as a little peapod. He was very adorable!
Well, that's a very brief update on the last several months! I'll be sure to keep things more up to date from now on!
