New Adventure!
When we made the decision to move to St. Charles, to get the kids into a better school district, we had to open enroll Lucas in kindergarten as we haven't found a house yet. They do all day everyday kindergarten, which I think is fabulous! They also do a month long summer prep program for kindergarten. SO, during the month of June Lucas spends three days a week learning about kindergarten and getting used to everything and meeting other students. Today was his first day. Now, he's been begging to start kindergarten for months! Thankfully the kiddo loves school. He had no fear this morning as we got ready and headed to his "new school." He even asked for me to play "his" song, twice, so he could "get pumped up for kindergarten." "His song" is Macklemore, Can't Hold Us. It was absolutely adorable. Now, enter my anxiety...my anxiety was two fold this morning for my little man. 1. working in a school has colored my perspective. I know how cruel kids are and at what a young age they begin their cruelty. 2. I was going to be leaving him with people I'd only met once...EEK! As his mommy I always want to protect him, keep him from feeling any pain or sadness. I wondered as I dropped my brave little man off today, "did I teach him enough? did I prepare him enough? is he ready?" And I hoped (I don't pray....) with all of my might that the other kids would be nice to him, that he wouldn't be picked on and that he will make friends. I also worry, if we made the right choice as parents to take him away from his preschool group, some of whom he would have inevitably ended up in school with, to put him in a new school and a new town, where he knows no one. Everything was weighing on me like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. I cannot imagine how I will react when the poor kid goes off to college.... :)
I will say this, I did not cry. Thankfully, I'm not usually the crying type. But I have to admit, part of the reason I didn't cry was because my brave little man had absolutely no fear, no doubts, and no questions. He walked into that kindergarten classroom like a champ, ready to take on his new adventure! I hope, that he always loves school as much as he did this morning!
